Qualche consiglio da Raymond Carver

Oggi voglio parlare di uno dei miei idoli: Raymond Carver. Andando a zonzo sul sito di The Paris Review ho trovato una bella intervista che spiega anche un po' il metodo di lavoro dello scrittore.
Ne riporto alcuni estratti in lingua originale e a seguire la mia traduzione casalinga.

The fiction I'm most interested in has lines of reference to the real world. None of my stories really happened, of course. But there's always something, some element, something said to me or that I witnessed, that may be the starting place. Here's an example: “That's the last Christmas you'll ever ruin for us!” I was drunk when I heard that, but I remembered it. And later, much later, when I was sober, using only that one line and other things I imagined, imagined so accurately that they could have happened, I made a story—“A Serious Talk.”* 

La narrativa che più mi interessa ha delle linee di congiungimento con il mondo reale. Nessuna delle mie storie è realmente accaduta, naturalmente. Ma c'è sempre qualcosa, qualche elemento, qualcosa che è stato detto o a cui ho assistito, che potrebbe diventare il punto di partenza [della storia]. Ad esempio: "Questo è l'ultimo Natale che ci rovini!" Ero ubriaco quando ho sentito queste parole, ma me le sono ricordate. E più tardi, molto più tardi, quando ero sobrio, utilizzando solo quella frase ed altre cose che ho immaginato, immaginato così accuratamente che sarebbero potute accadere, ho scritto un racconto, "Un discorso serio"*
